Social Communication

Doesn't respond to their name by 12 months Avoids or doesn't maintain eye contact Doesn't share interests with others (pointing, showing objects) Doesn't engage in pretend play by 18 months Limited facial expressions or difficulty reading others' emotions

Behavior Patterns

Lines up toys or objects and gets upset when order is changed Repeats words or phrases over and over (echolalia) Plays with toys the same way every time Focused on parts of objects (e.g., spinning wheels) Gets upset by minor changes in routine

Sensory Responses

Unusual reactions to sounds, smells, tastes, or textures Seeks specific sensory input (spinning, rocking, hand-flapping) Under-reacts or over-reacts to pain or temperature Covers ears or becomes distressed by certain sounds Avoids or seeks out specific textures or fabrics

Language & Communication

Delayed speech or language skills Doesn't point or wave by 12 months Loses previously acquired speech or social skills Difficulty starting or maintaining conversations Uses unusual tone of voice or rhythm when speaking
